WE ARE HOME!!!!!
Our drive from Orange County was a little bit challenging, but it was completely worth it to walk in the door and see a gorgeous wreath on the door from my wonderful friends Tara and Kristina, and a little Christmas tree that our amazing neighbors who were taking care of Coco put up!!! We are so blessed with the people in our lives.
The twins had a tough night sleeping because of the journey, but we are hopeful after a normal day of rest and eating, they will sleep normally tonight.
MORE GOOD NEWS: We took the babies to the pediatrician again and Carmel has gained over a pound (1lb 2oz) since her discharge! She is 5lbs 5oz! Michael, the big guy, has gained 1lb 5oz since discharge, for a weight of 7lbs 10oz! They are growing so well. But Michael has a little bit of a cold. No more parties for him for a while. :-)

Oh my goodness...a light at the end of the looong tunnel
For those of you wondering about our holiday plans (and yes we are rather ambitious and insane), we are actually going to fly directly to Orange County to see Damon's brother and wife and kids...especially our new 6 month old niece Grace who we haven't even met yet!! We plan on going home to Walnut Creek on Monday December 21. We will have officially been away from home for over 3 weeks; even longer then when we got married!! We are both so homesick and can't wait to go home!
Thanks again for all of your support and prayers! Here is a little video to tie you over until we get home :-)

Happy Birthday GongGong!
Happy Saturday
We are both a bit homesick and can't wait to get back home. Our little condo in Walnut Creek never seemed so huge and far away, we really miss our family and friends. And we still have a ways to go. Don't forget about us!!! :-P
Maybe I've also been slacking in my pictures too, so here are a couple for ya:
Michael during diaper change, Day 5...he's getting a tummy!! :-)
On our way to the agency to sign paperwork, day 9
We love the comments - keep em coming!

and finally - an update
The babies are doing great. We went to the doctor on Monday morning....our first driving adventure with the babies!! It was definitely an adventure and we now know that we need to plan a lot better. lol. On that day Michael had already gained 2 oz since discharge day on Friday!! Little Carmel also gained 1/2 oz. The doctor said both babies continue to be in good health. They really are such a joy and blessing.
As you can see my parents are in town! YAY! My mom has been such a great help with the nighttime feedings - my worst part! I always knew I was a sleeper, but now that I've experienced newborn twins, there is no doubt that I need some sleep deprivation conditioning. I'm sure these little ones will continue to train me. :-)
So for the next 7 days we'll still be holed up in our extended stay hotel.finding ways to entertain ourselves. We might drive around some of the local campuses and while my parents are in town, Damon hopes to head to a UNC or NC State basketball game. We are dtermined to make the best of our extended stay!!
I'll continue to update with pictures and vidoes of the little ones. We can't wait for you all to meet them!

I know we haven't posted in a bit
First of all - Friday, discharge day. Was much loooonger then we anticipated. Although nothing has really gone as anticipated this trip! By the time we got home we were super pooped. A little story for you. My mom had asked a while ago if she could give red envelopes to the bmom and bdad for good luck for the babies. Well on discharge day, we were right in the middle of giving the 2 red envelopes to them when my mom calls! bdad says - I would love to talk to her and congratulate her on her first grandchildre. So they did. It was special for them and my mom. My mom sent me an email that she wanted me to share:
"My thoughts of gratitude:
Dear Stephanie and Damon,
My eyes were filled with grateful tears as (bdad) congratulated me as Grandma. I was so touched by his sincerity. I hope that I were successful in conveying to him that we will take good care of the babies, and we will help in bring them up to be good persons. We will nurture them and love them. I was also so moved by the conversation with the birthmon. She is so selfless and loving that she deserves the highest respect. May God richly bless them and thier family.
Love to you all! PoPo(grandma,婆婆) Lydia"
The past two days have definitely been adventure filled. The days are going well and the nights are, um interesting nonetheless. Carmel is so sweet and sleeps like an angel. She squirms and opens her eyes around 1/2 hour before she is ready to feed. She coos and squeaks in her sleep every now and again. Michael on the other hand, is extremely active at night, kicking, squirming and crying. The minute he wakes up he is ready to eat and he takes more work to get down to sleep. The sleep deprivation has begun!! They are both eating very well and the diapers are just great (ha!). We sure get to see their personalities now they are finally ours full-time. It still amazes me that they are ours. They are so beautiful and loving.
Its 3:45 EST and we took the babies on their first outing in their new double stroller!! I'll posted a picture below. We went downstairs all the way to the business center so the maid could clean the room. lol
I did some video yesterday I thought you all would enjoy:
As always thank you all for your love and support. We are really hoping for bmom to be discharged tomorrow, but we are still not certain of her condition and certainly do not want her released earlier then necessary. But, we are ready to get back to our lives. We'll keep you posted tomorrow. Please continue to pray for her and for us as we move towards more of the unknown.

1st morning at the hotel
face each other most of the time, and we tend to switch sides too.
It's nice to see them in the same crib :-)

We're "home"!
nurse to mix Melly's special formula? Who is going to check their
vital signs every day or just check any little noise, squeak or
breath? Eek!
Damon and I have basically decided we are sleeping in shifts, since we
both don't feel comfortable sleeping at the same time. Is this why
people say we won't ever sleep again??
They are so beautiful and we are so blessed. I am sometimes still in
disbelief the past week even happened. Bmom is in a regular room as
she recovers from her major surgery. Tentative discussions of release
have mentioned Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
I'm exhausted from the stress of the week but can't sleep.
Friday!
It's 8am on the East Coast for what we believe is our last morning to sleep in! We were told yesterday we would be able to bring the babies to the hotel today. Our plan is to run some more errands, head to the hospital, have lunch with birthparents and bring them back!! Whee!
We hung out with the birthfamily for a significant amount of time in her new room last night. She asked us if she see the babies. This is not only common in open adoption its encouraged. We knew that she deserved it and had no problem with it. She said after everything she had been through she wanted to see that they were perfect. Both Damon and I handed each of the babies to her and let her hold each of them for a little while. She thanked us profusely, she is just so awesome and she kept wanting to make sure it was okay with us. She would continue to refer to them as ours. She was so happy to see how healthy and perfect they are. It was a very special moment for us and for her. I'm sure after we left it was emotional for her.
The status on us coming home continues to be up in the air. Our agency has informed us that she needs to be medically discharged for her to sign the proper relinquishment paperwork. At that point, the paperwork must be processed, then sent to California, then sent back to NC for us to leave the state. It could be an additional 5-7 days from when she signs. We are slightly discouraged by this - Damon is pretty stressed that he needs to get back to work; and of course the expenses of staying out here so long.
We are staying positive though and our excited for the babies to come to the hotel and be full time parents. Bmom has really pulled through and we are hopeful that she will get well fast!!! Keep praying for her!
Just for reading all that - how about a little video that I tempted you with yesterday?

Good news!!
Please continue to keep her in your prayers for a speedy recovery.
Will update more details tonight.

Wednesday evening update
SOOoooooo, good news and bad news. Good news - bmom is sitting up, awake and both Damon and I visited with her this morning!!!!! She is a little bummed about her condition but was happy to see us and know the babies are doing well. i tried not to cry when I told her how the babies basically took everything out of her. She told me not to make her cry because it hurt her insides. :-( But we know she knew that anyway. Smart cookie. Have I mentioned in the past few posts (other then the pictures, ha) how amazing she is?!
More good news - Damon and I are basically infatuated with Michael and Carmel...their names seem to be evolving into Mike and Melly (love that one) but we will see. I think Damon wants to create his own name for our Carmel that he gets to call her; his own special Daddy name.
OOoooo...blogging is such hard work I'm not even giving you the good good news. We were informed by someone in the nursery today that they BOTH might ready for discharge tomorrow. EXCITING! but....with bmom and her condition, they don't know when she'll be ready to sign her papers and we continue to make sure we respect and care for her needs and do what we are supposed to do. If we end up being able to take them back to the extended stay hotel (likely) it would be temporary and not the the paperwork that allows us to take her home to California.
As always thanks for everyones support. we are still trying to keep this blog to immediate friends and family. We have both posted our deepest emotions and feelings and this was never meant to be a public forum. As most of you probably already received a phonecall or email from us this is still the private Hubbart forum (LOL) . We thank you in advance for respecting our privacy.
another video from yesterday
How about some video!!?!?
We changed our first diapers!!
Carmel is eating better, Michael is still eating well. Carmel also
found her voice (crying)! Is this a good thing?

Evening update
even was able to call her husband from the hospital! They will
continue to monitor her in the ICU and if she stays good she will move
into her room!!! Such relieving news.
It's visiting hours again in the ICU so we are here to see birthdad
and I will go in and see her.
The first time I saw her this morning through tears of emotion I
expressed our love for her. I told her how strong she was and how much
we appreciated her and that we had the entire west coast praying for
her. She had tears in her eyes and would nod her head.
Today we have spent more time with the babies. They are so precious
and beautiful!! Carmel is a fussy eater and will need to put on a
little weight before she could be released. Michael is eating great
and could be possibly ready to leave the hospital first. We won't know
when we can take them to the hotel until birthmom is ok and coherent.
Hope everyone is well. Thank you so much for all of your well wishes
and prayers.

A Surreal Day
Today was one of the most unique days of our lives. We have ridden a roller coaster of joy and pain.
We welcomed our children into the world and lived a nightmare with the family who brought them into it.
As of late tonight on the east coast the birthmother is still critical. The Doctors are cautiously optimistic as their efforts to stem her internal bleeding were successful after a long day of multiple surgeries. We are hopeful, it will be her last. She is not yet out of the woods and more will be evaluated tomorrow. Please continue to keep her and her husband and family in your prayers. Her Husband has been a rock throughout this for his family and for us. We can not express how much love we have for him and her.
We appreciate everyone's vigilance in tracking her progress. We will repay that with more updates tomorrow.
The joy has been our "JOY" and "BLESSING". Both Michael and Carmel are doing so well. We could not be more stoked! Both babies are eating well, especially Carmel who is now trying to catch up with Mike for taking all of her food for the last 3 weeks! Great Great news.
Love to everyone.... talk to you soon.

Little Carmel

her.
The wait
view from the waiting room at the hospital. S is going into surgery now.
In typical dramatic Stephanie fashion, last night we were walking out of the mall and I didn't see the curb, hit the deck, and twisted my ankle. So now I'm hobbling around the hospital. Just call me gimpy.

Sunday activities
We did a little more shopping this morning. We went to the quietest Costco we've ever encountered!! Was it because it is Sunday and people are at church or is Wal-Mart the Sunday shopping of choice? I even let Damon buy us Chef Boyardee - I haven't eaten that since college. LOL
I'm going to go get a massage here in a bit - my last one for a while, I'm guessing. Then we'll go watch the Chargers game. Did we mention that our hotel is next door to one of the few non-smoking sports bars and a nice mall? Kismet.
It's going to be a long evening! Less then 24 hours can you believe it.

Setteled in our Temporary home
We have done a recon of the hospital and were able to meet with some nurses and an on call social worker.
We will have dinner with the Birthfamily tonight and then it is back to waiting for Monday morning.

As always thank you to all of you for all of your love and support. We'll continue to keep you all updated.
With all our love!

... and we're scheduled!
The cesarean section has been scheduled for Monday morning, December 30. We will fly out on Friday morning to North Carolina. We'll get to spend some time with the birth family getting to know them better.
Please keep us in your prayers for the safe delivery of our babies and the health of the birthmom who has come to mean so much to us. While our joy is great, she and her husband will have deep feelings of grief and loss. We will be constantly thinking of them.
Wish us safe travels and passage to Raleigh, NC!!
We can't believe its finally here...it has been a whirlwind and yet has felt like time has stood still all at the same time.
Love,
Stephanie

I am now a Blogger...I wonder if I can monetize this deal
I am starting to understand why Amy likes this. Total control (except of course for my better half) who will likely edit my posts.
UPDATE: NO Update HAHAHAH :-)
HI ALL
We are very excited and have been urgently putting our lives in order the past couple of weeks.
We will try to keep you updated on our progress as we move along the next couple of weeks.
Right now we are waiting on word from the OBGYN to schedule the delivery. We will update everyone then..may be a day or so. We expect it to be early next week.
